Poppy’s Longest Race Sees her Place 2nd

This year, Poppy increased her distance and time racing considerably, taking on the Julian Alps by UTMB 124 km (I Feel Slovenia). She put on a brilliant performance, placing second and qualifying for both UTMB and CCC World Finals 2026.

Poppy has been steadily running longer and further, securing the title of British Long Distance Champion in 2024 at the RAT Plague 100k. This year started with her returning to the Arc of Attrition by UTMB 50-miler, where she was second behind Elsey Davis.

At the Julian Alps, Poppy faced her longest and most difficult race yet: 124 km with 5935 m of elevation. She also experienced a night-time start for the first time.

Poppy paced herself carefully through the night and only realised she was in a podium position later on, when she noticed people filming and photographing her as she was reaching an aid station. Soon, she found herself in second place with the leader in sight on a long descent. She knew, however, that she needed to race smart and ensure she finished first and foremost.

After 17:37:14, Poppy crossed the finish line behind Miria Meinheit (17:16:45) and ahead of Marina Oana (18:20:05). A well-deserved second place which qualifies her for the UTMB World Finals 2026, in either the 100k CCC or the 100-mile UTMB. Let’s see which one she chooses!
