Meet the Athletes
Hugh Chatfield
Hugh is a British fell, trail and mountain marathon runner who got into ultra distances as a new way to challenge himself from a base in long-distance triathlon.
Hugh works for a charity supporting people facing barriers to employment into work. Although living in the relatively flat South-East of England, he spends his weekends in the Peak District, Lake District and Snowdonia training. He is also a qualified mountain leader and offers freelance guided running and navigation coaching.
Hugh has a strong, diverse track record of success including everything from shorter fell races, navigation and orienteering races (his favourite!), to an emphatic win at the 2023 Dragon's Back, racing the length of Wales over 6 days in a heatwave. In 2025, he qualified for the Team GB&NI Long Trail squad to represent Britain at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Canfranc, Spain.
