Dan Thornton
physiologist
Dan Thornton is a performance physiologist at Loughborough Sport. He holds a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science from Swansea university and is currently completing an MSc in Sport Physiology and Nutrition at Loughborough University.
His ongoing research, developed in direct collaboration with the Elite Trail Team, investigates the physiological impact of wearing a race pack during prolonged, incline-integrated running. The project is designed to deliver actionable insights for trail runners by addressing real-world performance demands and informing more precise training strategies.
In addition to his academic work, Dan supports both the Loughborough Triathlon Performance Centre and Loughborough Sport’s commercial physiology services. He delivers athlete profiling, performance monitoring, and environmental preparation to optimise training and competition outcomes. Grounded in scientific rigour but focused on practical application, Dan prioritises tailored support that reflects the unique demands of each athlete and discipline.
